Gender stereotyping is constantly happening all around us whether we are aware of it or not. From a young age, children are inundated by messages of what they should or should not do based on their gender. Because of this, it is important that children receive positive messages at a young age related to gender stereotypes, so that they feel in control of whether they choose to conform to those stereotypes or not.
Equala Press, a small-scale children’s book publishing company, publishes books that equally represent all genders and primarily involve characters that are not based on stereotypes. This helps children understand that they have control over their role in the world, whether it be through the toys they play with or the career path they choose. I created, named, and branded this company as part of my Identity Design class.
